How to log in to My Aged Care
Your Online Account is reached through myGov. Once it's linked, sign in at my.gov.au and select the My Aged Care tile on your myGov homepage. No tile? You haven't linked yet, so follow the steps below. When you finish, select "Return to myGov", then "Sign out".
How to link My Aged Care to myGov
You only do this once.
- 1
Register with My Aged Care
You can only link once you're registered. Not registered, or not sure? Call 1800 200 422, or apply for an assessment online.
- 2
Create a myGov account
You need a personal email address only you use, or a Digital ID. Already use myGov for Medicare or Centrelink? Use that account.
- 3
Choose View and link services
Sign in at my.gov.au, select View and link services, then select Link on the My Aged Care tile.
- 4
Say who you are
Confirm whether you're getting aged care yourself or supporting someone who is.
- 5
Prove your identity
Use your Aged Care ID or Medicare number. Your Centrelink customer reference number or Veteran card number may also work.
- 6
Confirm your details
Enter your name and contact details as My Aged Care has them. The My Aged Care tile then appears on your myGov homepage.
My Aged Care login problems and fixes
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| Linking fails, or it can't find my record | Call 1800 200 422 to check you're registered. Enter your details as My Aged Care has them, or try your Medicare number. Help with linking comes from My Aged Care, not myGov. |
| I don't know my Aged Care ID | Link with your Medicare number instead. Your ID then shows under your name on your Online Account homepage. |
| I can't sign in to myGov | Call the myGov helpdesk on 13 23 07 and choose option 1. It can only help with your myGov account. |
| I'm helping Mum or Dad | Don't sign in to their myGov account, even as their nominee. Become their registered supporter and use your own myGov and Online Account. |
| My income and assets assessment isn't there | Means assessments are done by Services Australia, or DVA if you get a means-tested DVA payment, so they aren't in your Online Account. |
| My support plan isn't in My Health Record | The two records aren't linked. Ask your assessor or My Aged Care to add your support plan to My Health Record. |
| I'd rather not do this online | Call 1800 200 422, or book a free Aged Care Specialist Officer appointment for help with the website and documents. |

How to apply to My Aged Care or make a referral
To get government-funded aged care for the first time, you need an aged care assessment. Applying for one also registers you with My Aged Care.
For yourself or family
Apply online in 15 to 20 minutes with your Medicare card, call 1800 200 422, or book an Aged Care Specialist Officer. With your permission, family or a friend can apply for you.
From your GP
With your consent, GPs can send a My Aged Care e-Referral from their practice software, and any health or aged care professional can use the Make a referral form or phone.
From hospital
Ask hospital staff to arrange an assessment before you're discharged if you'll need care at home. They can refer you through Make a referral.
- Already assessed or registered, or need care right now? Call 1800 200 422 instead of using the online form.
- Make a referral is for professionals making a first referral, not a reassessment. They can follow up on 1800 836 799.
- Registering before you need services won't get you services sooner.
Apply for an assessment online or, for professionals, make a referral.
Need help urgently?
Call My Aged Care and say it's urgent: some services can start before an assessment. If your carer suddenly can't look after you, call Carer Gateway on 1800 422 737 about emergency respite. In an emergency, call 000.
Where to find your My Aged Care ID number
You get an Aged Care ID when you first register. It starts with AC followed by 8 digits, for example AC12345678, and it's right under your name on your Online Account homepage, and in Your profile. Haven't linked myGov yet? Link with your Medicare number, then look it up.
Referral codes are different. You get one for each approved service and give it to the provider you choose, so they can see your support plan and accept the referral. They're in the Services section of your Online Account, where you can also reactivate a code to change provider.
How to register a family member as your supporter
Under the new Aged Care Act, from 1 November 2025, the people who help you with My Aged Care are called registered supporters, replacing representatives. A supporter can be family, a friend, a carer or anyone you trust, and you can have more than one. They can pass on your wishes, help you make your own decisions, and see and update your information. They don't decide for you: only an appointed decision-maker, such as a guardian or an enduring power of attorney with active authority, can.
You'll both need your Medicare cards and contact details, and the supporter must declare any conflict of interest, such as working for your provider. If you both consent, no legal documents are needed. Without your consent, someone can only register by proving they're your active appointed decision-maker, and statutory declarations are no longer accepted. You can register a supporter:
- In the optional last part of the online assessment application
- By calling 1800 200 422 together
- On the Registration of a Supporter form, uploaded to your Online Account or posted
- In the Support networks section of your Online Account
- With your assessor, or at an Aged Care Specialist Officer appointment
What happens after you apply to My Aged Care?
- 1
An assessment organisation contacts you
They book your assessment, usually at home, and it usually happens within 5 to 40 days depending on urgency. From July to September 2026 the national median wait was 21 days. A Welcome Pack also arrives in the mail.
- 2
You have your assessment
It's free. Have your Medicare card and one other ID ready, and a family member or supporter can be with you.
- 3
You get your Notice of Decision
This letter says what you're approved for and includes your support plan. It can take up to 2 weeks. If you disagree, you can ask for a free review within 28 days of getting it.
- 4
You choose a provider
For CHSP, your assessor may refer you, or you give providers your referral codes. For Support at Home, funding is assigned in priority order, then you choose one provider for all your services.
How long you wait for Support at Home funding
Your priority category is in your outcome letter. My Aged Care's estimated waits for ongoing funding, as at 30 June 2026:
| Priority category | Estimated wait |
|---|---|
| Urgent | Within 1 month |
| High | 1 month |
| Medium | 5 to 6 months |
| Standard | 7 to 8 months |
When funding is assigned you get a letter, and you have 56 days from its date to sign a service agreement and start services. You can ask My Aged Care for a 28-day extension. Our Support at Home guide explains budgets and what you'll pay, and our CHSP guide covers entry-level help at home.
You can search for providers yourself with My Aged Care's Find a provider tool. Services aren't always available, so you may need to check with several providers. Help Alliance is a free, independent matching service: tell us once what you need, and local providers who can start get in touch. You choose who to go with.
