How to Use the NDIS Provider Finder (and a Faster Way)

The NDIS Provider Finder is the NDIA's free search tool for finding NDIS providers near you. You search by suburb and type of support, then contact each provider yourself to ask if they can help. Here's how to use it, how to check a provider is registered, and how to skip the ringing around.

How to use the NDIS Provider Finder

  1. 1

Open the Provider Finder on ndis.gov.au

It's in the participants section of the NDIS website, under working with providers. It's free and you don't need to log in.

  2. 2

Search by your suburb or postcode

Results are based on where the provider delivers services, so start with where you live.

  3. 3

Narrow it to the support you need

Filter by the type of support, such as daily personal activities, therapy or support coordination, so you only see providers who offer it.

  4. 4

Open each listing for contact details

Listings show how to reach the provider, such as a phone number, website and sometimes an email address.

  5. 5

Contact them and ask the right questions

Ask whether they can start when you need, which days and times they cover, their rates and their minimum shift and cancellation terms.

Check the provider is registered

The Provider Finder helps you find providers. To check one, search the NDIS Commission's register of providers. It shows whether a provider's registration is approved or revoked, and lists banning orders. If your plan is agency-managed you can only use registered providers. If it's plan-managed or self-managed you can use registered or unregistered providers.

Questions to ask before you choose

  • Can you start when I need, or is there a waitlist?
  • Which days and times can you cover, and will I see the same workers?
  • What do you charge, and is it within the NDIS price limits?
  • Is there a minimum shift length or a cancellation fee?
  • Are you registered with the NDIS Commission?
  • Have you supported people with needs like mine?

The catch: lists don't show who has room

A provider list shows everyone who offers a support in your area, including the ones who are full. Finding out who can actually start usually means calling down the list and repeating your story each time.

Searching a provider list

  • Search and get a long list of names
  • Call or email each provider
  • Hear “we're full” or join a waitlist
  • Start again with the next name

Sending one request with Help Alliance

  • Tell us what you need and where, once
  • It goes to providers near you who offer that support
  • Only those who can start when you need accept
  • They contact you, and you choose

Help Alliance is free for participants and families, doesn't provide care itself and isn't an NDIS provider.
